“Fragrance & Form: How Brassavola nodosa Shaped Modern Hybrids"

Jason Mackey will be sharing his knowledge and passion with orchid enthusiasts of all levels. Jason's love of orchids began in childhood and ultimately turned into a career. He is now the owner of Barefoot Orchids, a local South Florida orchid nursery whose name honors both his Florida roots and the great-grandmother who inspired generations of orchid growers in his family. Flamingo Gardens Orchid Society meets at 7:30 pm, at Flamingo Gardens, Mary N. Porter Learning Center.

“Growing Vandas: Understanding Their Growth Habits"

Cheryl Erins, the current President of the American Orchid Society, is a long-time orchid grower, AOS-certified judge, and active leader in the Chicago Judging Center and Past President of the Mid-America Orchid Congress. A former president of the Batavia Orchid Society, she enjoys sharing her expertise with orchid groups nationwide. She has traveled to Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Malaysia, and Taiwan, in addition to many North American venues, all to learn more about orchids.  She will be attending the World Orchid Conference in Dresden, Germany in 2026

“The Giant World of Miniature Orchid & Growing in Simple Setups"

 "What used to be a 'hobby' slowly grew to a small business that is expanding. We found out there are hundreds of growers, like me, searching for these hard to find, unusual, uncommon and rare micro and miniature orchids. Doing what you love is the most rewarding thing in life!" Tomas' other hobby is photography. Dr. Juraj Kojs

AOS Judge, Associate Professor of Professional Practice-University of Miami's Frost School of Music

“Developing an Orchid Collection-A practical guide to building a collection based on personal preferences, culture and microclimate knowledge” 

Dr. Juraj Kojš is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where he combines his passion for music and orchids in innovative ways. He is the creator of Orchid DNA Music project and the founder of the FETA Foundation, which promotes experimental and interdisciplinary art forms. Dr. Kojš’s works have been commissioned by prestigious organizations such as The Knight Foundation, The Quiet Music Ensemble, Miami Light Project, Meet the Composer, Harvestworks, Miami Theater Center, Miami Live Arts, Deering Estate, and Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.

In addition to his musical achievements, Dr. Kojš is an accredited American Orchid Society judge. He is the past president of Coalition for Orchid Species. In 2024, he chaired the inaugural Orchids & Arts Festival at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. He has received over 60 awards from the AOS to date, published articles in the Orchids magazine and presented his Orchid Music project at the World Orchid Conference in Taiwan (2024) and XXI Exposicion Nacional de Orquideas in Bogota, Colombia (2024). His multifaceted career reflects a unique blend of scientific rigor, artistic creativity, and a deep love for orchids. www.kojs.netAdditional

 The Orchidteers have been mounting and maintaining the orchids at Flamingo Gardens for eight years. They are volunteers of the Horticultural Department and are associated with Flamingo Gardens Orchid Society.
